Over the past year, the fashion world has seen a fantastic resurgence of the most unlikely era: the trends of the early 2000s.
The biggest Y2K trends, including Ed Hardy’s trucker hats, scarves, and t-shirts, are back on Instagram and the catwalks. However, for the Spring Summer 2022 collection, Miu Miu tested perhaps the most controversial trend of the time: low-rise mini pants.
With her latest show for her sister company, Creative Director Miuccia Prada cleverly combined the hot waistline trend with the house’s classics and current trends. A series of miniskirts appeared on the catwalk that reminded viewers of Christina Aguilera’s unforgettable micro-skirt in the 2002 VMAs. These skirts were paired with cropped trousers and a collared shirt, exalting the depth of the first round. At the same time, wide-leg pants and shorts appeared, again and again, taking the early 2000s trend away from Aguilera’s “Dirrty” aesthetic and into a more formal outfit.
The fashion house’s signature decorative pieces were also featured throughout the show. A pale green midi dress with green and white beading adds a sense of timeless glamor to the collection. Likewise, a black sleeveless mini dress with black embellishments is simple yet effective and classic. A delicate pink dress with yellow and white beads simultaneously showcases the sparkle and shine of the brand and the collection’s Y2K theme.
Current trends also appear on the catwalk. Baggy jackets and blazers have become an obsession with oversized and classic cuts. At the same time, Prada introduces some large clothing models with cozy styles. The most excellent and most chic example of these is an oversized green cardigan and skirt that combines two equal pieces in a nonchalant and chic way.
Although heavily involved in the late Y2K trend, Miu Miu’s latest collection is still very diverse. Equal parts, timeless and trendy, the Miuccia Prada’s versatility is second to none. Her ability to stay true to the fashion house while exploring both past and present styles in fun and chic way proves this, and at the same time, ensures the age-old Prada name continues to be at the forefront of the industry.
