La Liga New Arrivals

Welcome to the La Liga new arrivals sale! Here, you will find all of the latest arrivals for the 2016/17 season. From top stars to promising youngsters, we have you covered. So whether you’re looking for a star player to boost your team’s title challenge or a young player with great potential, we have the perfect player for you.

First up is Real Madrid’s new signing Toni Kroos. The Germany international joins from Bayern Munich and brings experience and firepower to Los Blancos’ midfield. He is expected to be a key part of Zinedine Zidane’s plans this season and could help them win their eleventh Champions League title.

Atletico Madrid also made an impressive addition in the form of French winger Antoine Griezmann. The 30-year-old arrives from Atlético Madrid’s fierce rivals Barcelona and is expected to provide goalscoring support for Diego Simeone’s side. Griezmann has won numerous trophies during his time at Atletico Madrid, including two Spanish League titles and one Europa League crown. He is sure to add some much-needed firepower to Atleti’s squad this season.

Another big name arriving in Spain this season is Liverpool midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri. After completing a £33 million move from Bayern Munich, Shaqiri will join up with former Stoke City teammate Jürgen Klopp at Anfield after scoring 35 goals in over 200 appearances for his previous club.

La Liga Top Goalscorers

In the 2016-17 La Liga season, there were a total of 92 goals scored. Of those, eight players scored over 25 goals, which is a new record for the league.
As mentioned earlier, Álvaro Morata was the top scorer in La Liga with 24 goals. He also had the best goal-to-game ratio (1.85) and was joint sixth in assists (six). David Villa finished second in the scoring charts with 23 goals and his goal tally was good enough for him to win the Golden Boot award. Diego Costa finished third with 22 goals, while Leo Messi rounded out the top five scorers with 21 goals. Cristiano Ronaldo was however, disappointing in Spain this season as he only managed 12 goals – which is his lowest total since winning his first Ballon d’Or back in 2008.

All of these top scorers played their part in their teams’ successful campaigns – but who were some of La Liga’s other stand-out performers? Let’s take a look:

Kiko Femenía: The Valencia defender made 28 appearances for the club this season and scored four times – including one goal against Atlético Madrid that helped his team clinch a vital victory at home late on in the campaign. He completed 85% of his passes and averaged 2.8 tackles per game too.

La Liga is a professional football league in Spain

The Liga season is now in full swing and teams are fighting for the top spots. The top clubs have been pushing each other to new limits and sometimes results have been unpredictable. This season has already seen some huge surprises, with both Barcelona and Real Madrid losing points relatively early on. Teams such as Valencia and Getafe have also impressed and could be challenging for a spot in the top four come the end of the season.

One of the biggest changes this season has been La Liga’s new rule which allows teams to sign players from any league in Europe. This has led to some big names moving between clubs, with players such as Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) and Alexis Sanchez (Barcelona) joining new sides. However, not everyone is happy with this change – many feel that it deters star players from joining La Liga sides, leading to a lack of depth in some squads.

Aside from transfer activity, La Liga has also seen a number of high-profile player retirements this season. Most notably, World Cup winner Andres Iniesta announced his retirement at the end of October after 11 years at Barcelona. Other big names to retire include David Villa (Atletico Madrid), Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid) and Fernando Torres (Chelsea). These departures will leave a big hole in their respective clubs’ lineups, but hopefully younger stars can step up and fill the void.
