The Memphis Tigers are a professional baseball team that plays in the American League Central Division. The Tigers have been playing in Memphis since 1903, and their original name was the Memphis Blues. In 1935, they changed their name to the Memphis Chickasaws, and in 1956 they became the Memphis Tigers. Since becoming a part of the American League Central Division in 1998, they have played at Liberty Ballpark. In 2009, they were renamed the Memphis Redbirds after a naming-rights agreement with a regional airline carrier. Throughout their history, the Tigers have had several different nicknames. During their time as the Chickasaws, they were known as the Scrappy Weenies (1935-1956). They were also called the Matadors (1963-1965) and Pilots (1996-1998). During their time as the Redbirds, they were known as the Bojangles Boys (2009-2015), then simply Bojangles (2016-present).
