As a Jets fan, I couldn’t be more excited for the upcoming season. After years of rebuilding, the franchise is back in Winnipeg and ready to make some noise. The team’s biggest stars are all in their early-20s and looking to take over the NHL. However, one player who has always been a cornerstone of the Winnipeg Jets is Stan Smith. Smith was drafted by the Jets in 1988 and went on to play for them until 2006. He was a key player on many of their playoff runs and holds many franchise records.

Although he retired from playing hockey in 2006, Smith continues to be an active member of the community and ambassador for his old team. In 2017, he became president of True North Sports & Entertainment Corporation – which owns the Winnipeg Jets – making him one of only two living former players with that role (the other being Steve Yzerman). His involvement with True North shows just how much he loves his hometown club and wants to help it reach its full potential.
