The 4Th of July is a day that celebrates freedom and independence. The event is marked by fireworks and parades in many cities all over the United States. This year, celebrations will be especially poignant as Americans reflect on what it means to be vaccinated and intoxicated at the same time. It has always been strange to me that the celebration of freedom and independence includes alcohol. In my opinion, Independence Day should be a sober holiday. I understand that some people enjoy a few glasses of wine or whiskey to toast the US flag, but let us not forget our founding fathers who fought so hard for our liberties. Many of them were sober enough to think straight and they fostered a strong work ethic in their citizens. One of America’s most famous founding fathers was Abraham Lincoln. He was an impressive man with a great sense of humor. One story tells of how he once dealt with drunkards at a parade. He approached them calmly and said, “ Gentlemen, do you know how many breweries I have closed today?” The drunken men quickly dispersed and paid more attention to their tasks. Mr Lincoln was known for his moral character as well as his leadership skills.
On this 4Th of July 2021, we will be commemorating the 186th anniversary of the birth of our country’s 7th president, Abraham Lincoln. On this day, we should remember all that Lincoln stands for – freedom, justice, and equality. One important aspect of Lincoln’s life was his activism against slavery. Through his speeches and writings, he helped to bring about a change in America’s attitude towards slavery. This eventually led to the abolition of slavery in America.Lincoln also played a major role in the American Civil War. He was President during the war years 1861-1865, during which time more than 620 000 soldiers died. The Union army ultimately won the war and became known as the “Unconditional Surrender Army”.Lincoln is celebrated for his efforts not only as an individual but also as President of our country. He is considered one of our most iconic presidents and is often quoted in popular culture.
America’s Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday in the United States. Celebrated annually on July 4th, it commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The holiday is often celebrated by hosting barbecues and Fireworks displays. This year marks the 220th anniversary of America’s Independence. Prior to 1921, federal law prohibited drinking alcohol on Sunday during daylight hours. However, individuals in states that permitted Sunday drinking had to chose between violating state law or wearing an “official red flag” to show they were complying with federal law. In 1920, as part of nationwide prohibition efforts, Congress passed a joint resolution that changed the flag code to exempt persons who were “vaccinated against smallpox” from having to display the red flag. As a result of this amendment some people argued that since vaccinations were not available to all Americans until after World War I (1918-1941), Congress had thereby exempted all Americans from being required to salute the national flag. Consequently, many Americans began celebrating Independence Day by gathering at local parks or beaches to drink alcohol and sing patriotic songs. In 1971, when Alaska and Hawaii became states, Congress passed legislation making Fourth of July celebrations national holidays for all Americans regardless of whether their state allowed Sunday drinking or not.

What a day it was! The Fourth of July commemorates the adoption of the US Flag and the birth of our national hero, President Abraham Lincoln. As we all celebrated this important day, many Americans were unfortunately without their safety net as some chose to get unvaccinated in defiance of public health warnings. Sadly, these irresponsible actions resulted in at least 10 casualties including four people who died from whooping cough. In spite of all the bad news stories, we can take heart that most Americans are celebrating responsibly and following preventable advice like getting vaccinated against deadly diseases.
The 4th of July is an annual holiday in the United States that commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. On this day, Americans celebrate their individual and national freedom by enjoying festivities such as parades, cook-outs, and fireworks. However, since 2003, there has been increasing concern over whether or not certain individuals should be allowed to participate in these events due to their intoxication levels. In 2011, legislation was passed that allows fordrunk drivers to serve jail time instead of receiving penalties such as fines or DUI probation. Despite this progress, many people are still opposed to allowing intoxicated individuals access to public events like the 4th of July parade. Especially because some tragedies have occurred during these events when spectators have become intoxicated and caused massive destruction. As a result, we ask you: Should intoxicated Americans be allowed to participate in patriotic celebrations like the 4th of July Parade?
